The position for your PC or Laptop will, to a large extent, be determined by floor space. If floor space is at a premium then you should try to utilise a corner which would afford you greater depth for your monitor and keyboard and for your legs. In addition you will have two walls of shelving or cabinets within easy reach.

Lighting

Don't bury yourself in the darkest corner of the room. Neither do you want to have a window too close as this may produce glare on you monitor. Ideally the window should lie just outside of your peripheral vision.

Utilities

Consider where you will be accessing the power outlets and phone lines. Cables can be kept from sight with the use cable management accessories. You will need to know the exact position of base cupboards and see if they will obscure any power or phone outlets and possibly make arrangements for an electrician to move or extend a socket to make it accessible. Burying an extension lead plug behind a cupboard without access is not desirable.
